Welcome to Coniscliffe Woodcarving Club.



Coniscliffe Carving Club is a vibrant and friendly club, whose aim is to promote the craft of woodcarving and always give new members a warm welcome.

The Club is located in Bowburn, County Durham and was formed in the year 2000.


We have members of all abilities from total novice to experienced expert carvers, ranging in age from 12 to 85 years old and from all walks of life but who share common interest in wood carving.

As well as members from Durham and North Yorkshire some travel from as far as Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside. The club has weekly hands on meetings on Tuesday evenings from 7.00-9.00pm at Bowburn Community Centre, Durham Road, Bowburn DH6 5AT.


We provide a place for anyone interested in woodcarving to meet, share skills, information and ideas and to receive encouragement and guidance in a safe and friendly atmosphere. For an idea of the varied types of carvings the members produce see our Gallery page.


All you need is the interest and we will provide the rest.


If you are interested in finding out more about woodcarving or actually trying your hand, you have found the right place.



You need no previous experience or even be good at art to become a woodcarver. You do not even need wood or tools as the club provides a free 4 week trial so you can see if it is for you. In this time the club will provide, a friendly mentor to guide you through your first project, the wood, the tools plus all the advice, help and encouragement you need, not to mention a cuppa and plenty of friendly banter.
